Mental Health First Aid courses
As an accredited Mental Health First Aid instructor, we offer the Adult 2-day course in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and the half day Mental Health Aware course, equipping you in recognising the signs and symptoms of poor mental health and know how to offer initial support.
What will you learn?
On the 2-day Mental Health First Aid course you will build your knowledge in:
- Understanding what mental health is and learning about the different types of mental health illnesses
- How to spot signs and symptoms of poor mental health
- Learning how to listen, reassure and respond even in mental health crisis
- Developing confidence and learn new skills to approach and support someone experiencing poor mental health
- Becoming more aware of your own mental health
- Working towards reducing stigma and discrimination around mental health
The content of the 2-day Adult course is embedded within a workplace context, meaning it’s relevant to apply with staff and colleagues. Each delegate is awarded a certificate upon completion of the two days, recognising them as a qualified mental health first aider, able to offer initial support to individuals experiencing symptoms of poor mental health.
On the half day Mental Health Aware course you will build your knowledge in:
- What mental health is and how to challenge stigma
- An introduction to some common mental health issues
- Confidence to support someone who may be experiencing mental ill health
- Ways to look after your own mental health and support wellbeing
Our courses run with a minimum of 8 delegates and a maximum of 16. We offer the courses in-house or at an external venue, and we run open courses, open to any individual who’d like to book onto the training. Whether you have a full cohort of staff, a couple of staff interested in the training or if you’re an individual interested in the training for yourself, we have plenty of options we can discuss with you.
How will this impact your workplace?
Mental ill health costs UK employers £34.9 billion each year, in reduced productivity, sickness absence and staff turnover. We know that staff wellbeing is a significant part of having a happy, healthy and productive workforce. Having a number of staff trained as mental health first aiders, means they can be the ‘go-to’ people for other staff in your organisation to speak to if they’re feeling they need support with their mental health. Having an open environment to discuss mental health in your organisation creates a supportive culture for maintaining staff mental wellbeing. Having Mental Health First Aiders in your organisation means early signs and symptoms of poor mental health in employees is recognised and support is provided early, usually leading to a faster recovery.
For companies interested in finding out more about the 2-day course, we offer a 1-hour taster session at your premises to experience what Mental Health First Aid entails. If you have a group of staff ready to train on the 2-day course, contact us to book your course.

“Nine employees at Static Systems Group PLC opted to undertake a Mental Health First Aider Course, delivered by Jessica, over a 2-day period. A percentage of the employees already had a basic understanding of mental health, whereas for others it was a new learning curve; Jess delivered the course exceptionally well and ensured that all employees understood the topics that were discussed.
The course itself touches on many different aspects of mental health, how it affects a person and people around them, how to get help, etc…
The topics discussed were at times emotional, but Jess was empathetic and allowed employees to have ‘time out’ if necessary. The Mental Health First Aider course has enabled employees to gain a deeper understanding of mental health as a whole. They have obtained new knowledge and skills that can be used both internally and externally to help others as well as themselves.
We most definitely recommend Jessica; she provides an impeccable training course.
Jess, thank you again.” Static Systems PLC

They are both a credit to MHFA England! They created a relaxed atmosphere despite the heavy content, which encouraged all delegates to be comfortable and at ease throughout.” “The course was engaging and informative, I felt both Jess and Ryan delivered the course with in depth knowledge and understanding of mental health.” Birmingham Dental Hospital
