Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training is an excellent way to recognise how you can support those around you when poor mental health arises.

Want to learn how to support your staff with their mental health? Unsure of what to say or do when a colleague is experiencing symptoms of poor mental health? Keen to learn what is expected of you as a business to help your staff with their mental health?

As an accredited MHFA England Instructor Member, we offer the MHFAider®, Mental Health Aware and MHFA Refresher course in person and virtually.

How will this impact your workplace?

Mental ill health costs UK employers £34.9 billion each year, in reduced productivity, sickness absence and staff turnover. We know that staff wellbeing is a significant part of having a happy, healthy and productive workforce.

Having a number of staff trained as mental health first aiders, means they are the ‘go-to’ people for other staff in your organisation to speak to about their mental health.

An open environment to discuss mental health creates a supportive culture for maintaining staff mental wellbeing. Having Mental Health First Aiders in your organisation means signs and symptoms of poor mental health are recognised and supported early, usually leading to a faster recovery.

If your company is interested in finding out more about the 2-day course, we offer a FREE virtual 1-hour taster session to experience what Mental Health First Aid entails. Contact us to book this in.

What will you learn?

The MHFAider® course will build your knowledge in:

  • Understanding what mental health is
  • How to spot signs and symptoms of poor mental health
  • Learning how to listen, reassure and respond even in mental health crisis
  • Developing confidence and learn new skills to approach and support someone experiencing poor mental health
  • Becoming more aware of your own mental health
  • Working towards reducing stigma and discrimination around mental health in the workplace.

Each learner is awarded a certificate, valid for 3 years, upon completion of the two days training, recognising them as a qualified MHFAider®. They’re able to offer initial support to individuals experiencing symptoms of poor mental health and have access to multiple benefits as part of MHFA England’s Association of Mental Health First Aiders.

The Mental Health Aware course will build your knowledge in:

  • What mental health is and how to challenge stigma
  • An introduction to common mental health issues
  • Confidence to support someone who may be experiencing mental ill health
  • Ways to look after your own mental health and support wellbeing.

The MHFA Refresher course will build your knowledge in:

  • Keep your knowledge, awareness, and skills of mental health support current
  • Update your knowledge of mental health and what influences it
  • Practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • Connect with MHFAiders from other organisations to share best practice.

Once you have completed your MHFA Refresher course, you will be certified for three years and will be invited to become or stay a member of MHFA England’s Association of Mental Health First Aiders – making sure you have everything you need to feel confident when supporting others.

For both face to face and virtual courses, we run with a minimum of 3 delegates and a maximum of 16. For face to face delivery, we offer the courses in-house or at an external venue. We run open courses, open to any individual who’d like to book onto the training (see upcoming dates below).

Whether you have a full cohort of staff, a couple of staff interested or if you’re an individual interested in the training for yourself, we have plenty of options we can discuss with you.
