Mental Health First Aid training

MHFA training is an excellent way to recognise how you can support those around you when poor mental health arises.

Want to learn how to support your staff with their mental health?

Unsure of what to say or do when a colleague is in need of mental health support?

Keen to learn what is expected of you as a business to help your staff with their mental health?

As an accredited Mental Health First Aid instructor, we offer the Adult 2-day course in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and the half day Mental Health Aware course, both in person and virtually.

What will you learn?

2-day Mental Health First Aid course will build your knowledge in:

  • Understanding what mental health is and learning about the different types of mental health illnesses
  • How to spot signs and symptoms of poor mental health
  • Learning how to listen, reassure and respond even in mental health crisis
  • Developing confidence and learn new skills to approach and support someone experiencing poor mental health
  • Becoming more aware of your own mental health
  • Working towards reducing stigma and discrimination around mental health

Each delegate is awarded a certificate upon completion of the two days, recognising them as a qualified mental health first aider. They’re able to offer initial support to individuals experiencing symptoms of poor mental health.

Half day Mental Health Aware course will build your knowledge in:

  • What mental health is and how to challenge stigma
  • An introduction to some common mental health issues
  • Confidence to support someone who may be experiencing mental ill health
  • Ways to look after your own mental health and support wellbeing

For both face to face and virtual courses, we run with a minimum of 8 delegates and a maximum of 16. For face to face delivery, we offer the courses in-house or at an external venue. We run open courses, open to any individual who’d like to book onto the training (see upcoming dates below).

Whether you have a full cohort of staff, a couple of staff interested or if you’re an individual interested in the training for yourself, we have plenty of options we can discuss with you.

How will this impact your workplace?

Mental ill health costs UK employers £34.9 billion each year, in reduced productivity, sickness absence and staff turnover. We know that staff wellbeing is a significant part of having a happy, healthy and productive workforce.

Having a number of staff trained as mental health first aiders, means they are the ‘go-to’ people for other staff in your organisation to speak to about their mental health.

An open environment to discuss mental health creates a supportive culture for maintaining staff mental wellbeing. Having Mental Health First Aiders in your organisation means signs and symptoms of poor mental health are recognised and supported early, usually leading to a faster recovery.

If your company is interested in finding out more about the 2-day course, we offer a FREE virtual 1-hour taster session to experience what Mental Health First Aid entails. Contact us to book this in.

Testimonials

“Nine employees at Static Systems Group PLC opted to undertake a Mental Health First Aider Course, delivered by Jessica, over a 2-day period. A percentage of the employees already had a basic understanding of mental health, whereas for others it was a new learning curve; Jess delivered the course exceptionally well and ensured that all employees understood the topics that were discussed. The course itself touches on many different aspects of mental health, how it affects a person and people around them, how to get help, etc… The topics discussed were at times emotional, but Jess was empathetic and allowed employees to have ‘time out’ if necessary. The Mental Health First Aider course has enabled employees to gain a deeper understanding of mental health as a whole. They have obtained new knowledge and skills that can be used both internally and externally to help others as well as themselves.
We most definitely recommend Jessica; she provides an impeccable training course.
Jess, thank you again.” Static Systems PLC

“Amazing session, loved the conservation and breakout room activities. The trainer Jess was really good and created a nice atmosphere where the group felt comfortable. Clear information; information book and workbook worked really well together. Intense course but reminders to take time out after course and talk to colleagues helped. ” Open online half day Mental Health Aware course
